Alaska Railroad Project Open Houses to Feature Rail Extension
The Port MacKenzie Rail Extension will be prominently featured at two upcoming open house events hosted by the Alaska Railroad. At the beginning of each year, the railroad organizes several public meetings to allow citizens an opportunity to review and provide comment on capital improvement plans for the coming year. Project fact sheets, display boards and project managers will be on-hand to answer questions from the public. Please join the project partners at one of these open house events:

Recent Events
On April 7 a public open house was held at Evangelo’s Restaurant at 2530 East Parks Highway in Wasilla from 6 to 8 p.m. Project team members presented route information and the project schedule, answer questions, and highlight the EIS findings, such as:
- Along the entire 32.5-mile corridor, only one small house will need to be relocated.
- Where the new rail line will cross officially recognized recreational trails for snow machines/ATVs and dog mushers, access will remain intact with trail crossings.
- The project design team will continue to avoid and reduce impacts further through final design
New Project Office – Opens
The Port MacKenze Rail Extension Project Office is anticipated to be opening in early February 2012.
